ADHD, ADD &
a place to start.

Getting from “I’d love to do something” to actually starting can feel like a big step. Here’s the thinking behind ADD Side Quests—and where an adventure app fits.

What are ADHD and ADD?

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a neurodevelopmental condition, meaning it relates to how the brain develops and functions. It can involve persistent difficulties with attention, restlessness and impulsivity. People experience different combinations of these; you do not have to be visibly hyperactive to have ADHD. Read the NIMH overview.

ADD means attention deficit disorder. It is an older name, still used informally, often for what is now called ADHD with a predominantly inattentive presentation. It is not a separate current diagnosis. More about ADD and ADHD.

Why everyday things can take effort

ADHD can affect executive functions: the brain’s skills for planning, organising, managing impulses and carrying out tasks. That can make keeping track of a plan or following it through difficult, even when you care about the outcome. NIH MedlinePlus explains executive function.

In adults, this may show up as distraction, forgotten appointments, difficulty organising time or feeling restless. Experiences vary. Being bored or recognising a few traits does not establish a diagnosis; an assessment considers your history and the impact on your life. Read the NHS adult ADHD guide.

03 / WHERE SIDE QUESTS FITS

A smaller first step.
Something to look forward to.

We’re designing around practical barriers to starting an activity. These features may help you find a plan that feels manageable; they are product design choices, not proven ADHD treatments.

Less choosing

Set your time, budget and energy, then get a suggested quest. Start with one idea instead of planning an entire day.

Clear next steps

Mission checklists break an adventure into smaller actions. See what is involved before you commit.

Progress you can see

XP, achievements and your storybook record what you’ve done. Join competition only if you enjoy it; taking part does not require a public ranking.

Your kind of company

Go solo, bring a friend or find a squad. Choose a short, low-energy or at-home quest when that suits you. You can skip or stop.

Can this replace ADHD support or treatment?

No. ADD Side Quests is an adventure and community app. It has not been clinically tested to improve ADHD symptoms, and it does not diagnose, treat or cure ADHD. You do not need a diagnosis to join; the app is for adults aged 18 and over.

If attention, impulsivity or restlessness is affecting your work, relationships or everyday life, speak with a GP or qualified healthcare professional. Support may include practical adjustments, psychological approaches and medication, depending on your needs. Explore ADHD support with the NHS.

GOOD QUESTIONS.

A few things to know.

Do I need to have ADHD?

No. ADDSIDEQUESTS is for curious adults whose brains get bored easily. You do not need a diagnosis. It is an entertainment product, not a treatment or clinical service.

Can I do quests on my own?

Absolutely. Choose “Just me” in the app. You can also select a partner or friends; the available quests change to match.

What if I have very little energy or money?

Choose “Taking it easy” and “Keep it free”. At-home quests can be completed seated, and you can read access details before accepting. There is no penalty for skipping or stopping.

Where is this launching?

The plan begins in Omagh and the surrounding north-west, followed by Belfast. This preview offers adaptable sample missions; it does not include a verified live venue directory.

Is the app ready to use?

The community beta has ADDSIDEQUESTS explorer accounts, cross-device progress, achievements, optional leaderboards, Campfire stories and photos, private squads, weekly quests, reports and blocking. Save event interests and RSVP to confirmed free events. Access is controlled during testing. Billing, verified local quests and operational event arrangements still need to be connected before a public launch.
